FreeMind is a free mind-mapping program written in Java and consequently runs on many platforms including Linux and Windows.
The FreeMind downloads page has links for installation on common operating systems, including a link to a bundled version for Windows which includes the Java runtime.
The application help is provided in the form of a mind map. The FreeMind documentation page contains information about other documentation formats, including printed books.
mindmeister
mindmeister is an online tool for creating and sharing mind maps, requiring a monthly fee to use the system.
